Three things to do now you’re engaged!

Heck, this is a pretty big deal right? You’re making it official, you’re tying the knot, you’ve chosen your forever person. Whether it was a low key mutual decision to get married or a full blown ‘gram-worthy engagement, you’re right in the thick of one of the most exciting times of your life! Before you dive head first into the equal parts exciting and terrifying experience that is wedding planning, here’s our top three things to do once you’ve entered fiancée territory.

Take a breath!
While it’s no doubt exciting and there’s a million things you want to do, remember that you will never again be newly engaged so make sure you pause and take in allll the feelings. Cherish moments with your spouse-to-be, enjoy sharing the news with your nearest and dearest and soak up all the congratulations and well wishes. There’s plenty of time to get stuck into wedding planning, so take a moment to enjoy that blissful just-engaged feeling.

Celebrate!
Your family and friends are super excited for you and you’re giddy af, so make the most of all the love bubbling over and soak it all up. Apart from the traditional engagement party which might take a couple of months to arrange, family lunches, brunch with friends or a night out on the town are all super fun ways to share and celebrate your engagement with the people closest to you. If you’re more private, what about a cosy weekend away with your partner, just the two of you, to bask in that engaged glow? Another way to celebrate your newly engaged status is with a gorgeous couples photoshoot! A great way to capture the memories of a special time in your life.

Start planning!
When you’re ready to start planning your big day, what’s the first thing you should do? Set a date? Go and visit venues? Ask your married mates for ideas? Yes, soon, but first we want you to sit down with your partner, and pour your favourite beverage. It’s time to get on the same page about what your wedding will look like. Have an open discussion about budget, likes, dislikes, and what is most important to you in a wedding celebration. Having these upfront discussions will make the planning process smoother, more enjoyable and enable you to present a united front when others (hi, family, friends and random coworkers!) inevitably give you their opinions. Being engaged is a fun and exciting time, but remember, the goal is a lifelong partnership, and your wedding is just one step on the beautiful journey of happily ever after.
