Maxine & Tom’s Greek Orthodox Church Wedding featuring rustic, earthy & industrial influences

Maxine & Tom’s Greek Orthodox Church Wedding featuring rustic, earthy & industrial influences

Like many couples over the past two years, Maxine and Tom felt like they were planning four different weddings, after postponing once due to COVID, and trying to keep up with the ever changing restrictions around weddings. While there were compromises and disappointments (interstate and overseas guests couldn’t celebrate with them), the couple stayed true to what they wanted from their wedding day, and thankfully were able to create a day which they look back on with joy. Maxine and Tom’s wedding was a beautiful mix of so many different elements. The couples say they wanted “romantic, yet fun and inclusive with a good blend of both of our cultures. Our wedding incorporated a wonderful mix of rustic, neutral and earthy tones in the floral arrangements and overall styling at our reception, with the industrial style of the venue.”

Superstar suppliers like Plant 4 Bowden, Emma Faith Photography and Flowers in Nature made the planning process so much simpler, and gave Maxine and Tom the unique and beautiful day they deserved. We think these words from Maxine and Tom sum up how you should approach your wedding celebrations: “Do what makes you happy, don’t feel obliged to follow traditional norms and values of a wedding. Wear the ‘non-white’ dress, make it a surprise, choose an unconventional and unique location, create a digital platform – just do it YOUR way! You’ll never regret staying true to yourselves.”

Lorynn + Francis’ funky Adelaide CBD elopement ceremony

Lorynn + Francis’ funky Adelaide CBD elopement ceremony

Before we get into one of the most adorable mini-weddings EVER, you need to hear one of the most adorably low-key and smile-inducing proposal stories EVER! Moving into their new home, on their 5 year anniversary, South Aussie couple Lorynn and Francis were head down, bum up getting unpacked and settled in. Just as they’re high-fiving each other after a big successful day of moving, Francis says: “Wait, there’s one more box we forgot about!” He was referring to a very tiny engagement ring box of course, and delighted Lorynn with a marriage proposal.
This couple were always going to elope, and made a last minute decision to get it done on a trip to Adelaide last year. How did they managed to pull it all together? I Do Drive Thru Weddings, the one stop shop for cool couples who want to get.it.done (stylishly, of course!) Elopement-loving celebrant Lauren took care of the ceremony and paperwork, the most smiley and talented of photographers, Dani was behind the lens, add in a homemade cake, a couple of snazzy outfits and some beautiful blooms and voila – instant (gorgeous!) mini-wedding. The streets of Adelaide were the perfect backdrop, and the couple dropped in at Gang (sadly now closed) for a few happy snaps. Lunch at the Gilbert Street hotel rounded out a fabulous day.
Individual touches like a handfasting ceremony made their day particularly memorable, and Lorynn and Francis have this advice for engaged couples who might be tossing up an elopement style wedding: “It doesn’t matter what kind of celebration you have; someone is always going to have something to say; so make sure you’re having a celebration that captures you and your partner and no one else.” We couldn’t agree more!
