When an Adelaide fashion and lifestyle blogger gets engaged, we naturally want to hear ALL about it! Cayleigh from With Style and Substance was lucky enough to experience one heck of a proposal in Sydney and has shared all the details with us.
Congratulations on your engagement!! Tell us about how you met?
We met through a mutual friend back when I was in high school but nothing really happened until a few years later when David got my number from my friend. He asked me out for lunch and we really just hit it off. The rest is history!
Was a proposal on the cards or did it come completely out of the blue?!
David and I have always been very open in our relationship and talk a lot about the future. We had reached the point where we both felt that the timing was right to take the next step in our journey. Since I had been involved in the ring process, it was not a big surprise for me. I’m not usually very good at surprises anyway, so I knew it was coming as soon as David told me we were going to Sydney (Oh, and he booked me in to get my nails done which was a clear giveaway hehe). It happened on the Saturday and included an indulgent day of treats and surprises (including massages to start the day and David surprising me with a Zimmermann outfit that he had organised for me to wear). David proposed on a beautiful private boat on Sydney Harbour. It was the most beautiful, and perfect setting, and such a special moment for us that I will treasure forever. He had organised a beautiful bunch of flowers for me afterwards and then we finished off the day with a romantic dinner at Aria overlooking the Harbour. It was the most magical day, and it could not have been more perfect – he had thought about every single little detail and had gone to so much effort.
Tell us all about your ring!
We designed the ring together because David knew that I am quite fussy and had a very specific design in mind. We loved sharing the process together; it was exciting learning about diamonds and seeing my vision come to life. It was quite overwhelming at first, with so much to take in. We visited a few jewellery designers, but I felt a connection with Cassandra Mamone and love that she is an Adelaide designer. Both manufacture and diamond quality was very important to us. I chose a brilliant cut diamond with a cushion halo with diamonds along the band too, set in platinum. I didn’t see the diamond we chose or completed ring until the day and I am so happy with the finished product!
Have you made any wedding plans yet?
I’ve started researching elements but don’t have much set in stone yet. We are looking at January 2019 for the wedding, so I still have a little time, but I know it is going to go fast – eek! I’m trying to start with the most important ‘big’ things such as venue, photographers and videographers, food and dress. We will have our reception at my fiancé’s parents beautiful private property, which is currently being re-landscaped. It will be set in the garden and I am forward to building my vision – it’s like having a blank canvas, which is going to be fun, but hard work I’m sure!
What kind of style are you drawn to?
I’m definitely drawn to a more classic, elegant and ‘luxe’ style, with lots of white, touches of gold, and of course lots of flowers!
What are you looking forward to most about wedding planning?
I am excited about the whole process! I love styling and there is so much beautiful inspiration around me so I can’t wait to see how it all comes together. I am so excited about the reception because this is where I can get the most creative and really focus on the details. I am of course very excited about the dress…it has always been a dream to have a Paolo Sebastian dress, so I am hoping that that dream will come true!
