Choosing The Right Wedding Suit: Three Questions To Ask Yourself

Planning for your wedding is one of the most exciting journeys of your life, but it can also be one of the most stressful. When it comes to selecting (or designing) your suit, it should be a fun and educational process that captures your style and personality. Here are some tips from Australian custom, made-to-measure suiting brand InStitchu.

1. What sort of wedding is it?
It’s a simple question, but one that you’ve probably given a lot of thought. Is it a formal and old-fashioned affair? Best to keep it classic and opt for a tuxedo, the most formal option at your fingertips. Is it casual? If it’s by the water, lightweight linen might be the right call, or if it’s something more rural or rustic, mismatched chinos and a blazer could be the right call. Something in the middle? A classic navy lounge suit will be timeless and work with any theme or style. In the same way you reach for a different outfit depending on the type of party or workplace you’re headed to, the right level of formality is the first and most important thing to consider.

2. What are the practical things you need to think about?
If it’s the middle of an Australian summer, a thick suit won’t work – you’ll perspire through the wool before you even say ‘I do’. If it’s going to be cool, you might need something a little thicker, and if you really aren’t sure, something in the middle (like 100% Australian Merino wool) will cover both boxes. Colour is another important practical consideration – how will your suit (and your groomsmen’s suits) work within the overall colour scheme of the bridesmaids, flowers and decorations. Tip: neutral colours like navy, black and grey go with everything. And, if you’re planning on a particularly athletic first dance (think Dirty Dancing lifts) you need to make sure there’s enough give in your trousers to avoid any sudden splits. Think your day through and keep the practical demands in mind.

3. How can you make the suit your own?
After all, your wedding is a day that’s supposed to represent you. While that doesn’t mean you should overshadow your better half, there are an array of details that you can customise to reflect your personality and style. Custom lining, button selection, pocket style, and even monogramming can be used to craft suits that really capture your personality and make the day feel special. Millie & Ben’s Adelaide Hills Wedding at Uraidla Show Hall

It’s only 20 minutes from the city, but the Uraidla Show Hall seems worlds away! Surrounded by greenery and the lush Adelaide Hills landscape, Millie and Ben didn’t bother looking at any other venue for their summer wedding!
A typical ‘Adelaide’ love story, Millie and Ben had multiple connections through various friends and sporting groups, and finally officially ‘met’ at Schoolies! After a gorgeous proposal in Western Australia (Ben was so confident Millie would accept he wrote ‘recently engaged’ on their accommodation bookings!) this couple spent 18 months planning their perfect wedding which drew inspiration from the groom’s choice of a green suit.
The whole family got involved in the wedding preparations in some way – Millie’s clever mum made all the bridesmaid dresses, as well as several outfits for the guests! Ben’s dad made a stage for the reception, and a good friend of the couple made their gorgeous (and delicious) wedding cake!
Ben and Millie say there were a few stand out moments on their wedding day they will cherish – seeing each other at the ceremony, celebrating with friends and family from all over Australia (something we don’t take for granted these days!) and dancing the Greek Zorba with almost all their guests!
Perhaps the most memorable moment though came when Ben decided it would be a great idea to cartwheel out of the reception! Millie says: “The funniest moment (on reflection) was at the very end of the night when exiting the reception the bridesmaids were doing cartwheels. Not to be outdone, Ben also decided to do a cartwheel and dislocated and broke his elbow. We then waited for 2 hours for an ambulance and spent our wedding night in emergency.”

Wedding Inspiration Shoot Styled by Sunday Love Events

Who is up for some fun? This vibrant and bold inspiration shoot, coordinated by some of the best wedding suppliers in SA, is a delight for all the senses! We’ll let Photographer Emma Faith Photography talk you through it, and don’t forget to scroll to the bottom for a full list of suppliers!

The heart behind this styled wedding shoot was to encourage our SA couples to think outside the box of what a typical wedding day could look like. What some people would think is a mismatch of items and that wouldn’t work well together, became a quirky, bright and modern styled wedding that could inspire our Adelaide couples to think outside the box and take risks with their own weddings and elopements.

The styling of this mock wedding was a breath of fresh air visualising something more than your classic whites, blacks and greens on a wedding day. Besides the inspiration of retro-contrasting colours, warehouse weddings were also something that inspired this photoshoot. In SA it’s not as common to have an indoor venue, especially one with bright white interiors and more of the lowkey industrial style. Sash Events allowed us to use their storage warehouse as the ‘wedding venue’ for this photoshoot which worked perfectly with our three trend-setting lilac arches from The Social Hour, fun dessert elements and our quirky sequin-dressed celebrant, Claire Parsons.

Jodie from Bouquet Residence chose a floral colour palette of bright reds, pinks and lilac, while also incorporating a few white blossom sprigs in our arbour. Jodie sourced as many flowers as she could locally, and created a foam-free installation for the arbour using reusable containers filled with chicken wires to hold the stems.

One of our main features as a part of the main ceremony backdrop were the gorgeous lilac panels from The Social Hour. For this styled shoot we searched high and low for arches and discovered that The Social Hour are the only business of their kind in Adelaide bringing these fresh ideas! They are setting the trend in Adelaide with their unique backdrops in all different shapes and colours.

COVID Friendly Micro Wedding Inspiration

2020 has been… a year, hasn’t it.
But amidst all the turmoil, uncertainty and disappointment, especially for couples planning their weddings, it’s been so lovely to see communities coming together, the kindness of strangers and the beautiful support that we have given each other through tough times.
Grasping on to those sparks of positivity, Chloe Tanner Photography and some clever South Australian wedding folk came up with the most divine inspiration for those of you considering a small(er) wedding. We are so excited to bring you this divine inspiration; here’s what Chloe had to say about organising the shoot:
“Earlier this year when SA was only just starting to reopen, and weddings were beginning to pick up again we decided to use the downtime to put together a shoot. We wanted to show you could have something small and intimate, and it still be gorgeous, fun and still feel like just as much as wedding as if you had 100 guests.
The only thing we couldn’t predict (much like a wedding day) was the weather. We powered through the ceremony as we could see lighting in the distance, and just as we were rushing through portraits on the beach, the sky opened up and unleashed an absolute bucket on us. We were actually stuck on the beach to avoid getting any wetter than we were, my assistant had us all wrapped up in an umbrella with an Akubra stuffed under his shirt like an absolute champ trying to avoid getting us any wetter!
So in a round about way we showed with this shoot, that whether it be COVID, rain, hail or shine you can go on with your day and it still be absolutely amazing!”
So please know – if you get married in a rain storm, on a 40 degree day, at a registry office, at your dream venue with 500 guests or anything in between, your day is just that – your day. It will be beautiful, magical, memorable, unique and most importantly, just the beginning of your amazing story together as a married couple.

Sommai & Jarin’s Adelaide Hills wedding at Golding Wines

A beautiful melding of two cultures, a stunning Adelaide Hills setting and a four legged ring-bearer – Sommai and Jarin’s gorgeous wedding day had it all. Oh, did we mention the bride does a dress change? You’re going to want to scroll down and check that out.
Sommi and Jarin made sure to incorporate important traditional touches to their wedding celebrations, whilst making the day a true reflection of themselves as a couple. Sommai says “Jarin and I come from different backgrounds and we felt it so important to incorporate both our cultures into the day.” They held a traditional Vietnamese tea ceremony, Jarin smashed glass at the end of the wedding ceremony which is a Jewish tradition, and the whole reception got involved in a very rowdy Jewish Hora (traditional folk dancing) with the newly married couple.
The theme for their wedding started with simple Australian native flowers, and the couple wanted to showcase the best of South Australia food, wine and scenery to interstate and overseas visitors (oh, remember those days!?). This led to a relaxed and intimate wedding with a celebratory vibe. Their only wedding-day regret? “Not partying harder,” says Jarin.

The couple say that their photographers “Were so down to earth and made us feel so natural in their presence. Because we met on a few occasions in the lead up, by our wedding day it felt like we were having friends over to chill!” Sounds like the perfect day!

Tiah & Stephen’s Castle Wedding in the Adelaide Hills

Tiah and Stephen knew that epic Adelaide Hills venue The Manor at Basket Range was the wedding venue for them, before event setting foot inside! Tiah says she felt chills go through her as they were going up the driveway – if that’s not love at first wedding venue sight we don’t know what is!
These two kept things simple with a classic colour palette, lots of meaningful DIY touches and having the whole family involved in their big day.
Despite a few hitches (their eldest son was sick for most of the wedding!), this couple pulled of their dream wedding with a bunch of talented suppliers who went over and above to make sure everything went according to plan. The couple give credit 22 Wedding Films for perfectly capturing their day, including the grooms hilarious speech, and The Manor at Basket Range for an absolutely perfect reception.
We love classic styling and simple elegance of this wedding (Her veil! All the candles! The roses!) which almost feels like it could be at a chateau somewhere in Europe! The couple chose to have their day photographed by Lilac in Hand Photography; Tiah says they are the best photographers for those natural un-posed moments: “They captured every moment to perfection. For part of the day i did not even notice they were there which was great, I got to sit in my love bubble with my husband while they did their thing.”

This couple is described themselves as ‘not-fancy’ – uh, we looked at your wedding pics guys, and we beg do differ this wedding looks fancy af! With a classic vibe and a rustic setting, Ashleigh & Mark focused on all the things they love when planning their big day, and the result was a perfectly relaxed, fuss free day with an awesome party vibe!
Of planning the celebration of their love Ash says “Mark and I knew what was important – good people, good food, cold drinks, some quality entertainment, and creating a great atmosphere. We like to think of our wedding as relaxed, but classy. I think we nailed the brief.” We think you do too guys!
We love the blush colour palette and streamlined vibe that comes from a simple, classic theme. While the couple say they didn’t have a theme as such, it’s clear they made choices that made sense for them as a couple, and so everything ties together in a beautiful way that feels so natural!

Alison & Dennis’ Charming Rustic Adelaide Hills Wedding

Who needs a little sunshine and happiness in their life right now? We’re happy to oblige by bringing you this stunner of an Adelaide Hills wedding shot by local photography whiz Simon Bills. Shooting weddings for the past ten years, Simon has really honed his craft as you can see from the gorgeous images below!
These words from Simon really resonate with us – these are the reasons you invest in a professional wedding photographer who really ‘gets’ you as a couple: “Is this an important photo? The answer is in the small stuff, the sneaky smile from your maid of honour when your dress goes on, the teardrop rolling down your father’s cheek as the ring goes on your finger, the warm embrace from a frail grandparent right after the ceremony. These are the photos I spend all day looking for and this is why I shoot weddings, to create a wildly comprehensive collection of images that tells the story of you and your tribe.”
Onto Alison and Dennis – how did they create their perfect wedding day? Alison says “Our inspiration for our wedding was a big family dinner. We knew that all our friends and family from around the world would be there and that was the greatest gift and inspiration. We wanted a lot of German influence at our wedding. (Dennis grew up in a small village in Germany) The overall feel was that big family party, basically a catch up of everyone we loved and cherished all in the same place.”
Taking inspiration from the rustic woodland setting, the couple and their friends and family undertook a whole heap of DIY. When asked if there was anything they did themselves for the wedding(with a little help from friends and family), Alison lists:
My sister made our plates – Melissa Gogler @melgee_ceramics
My mum made the hessian placemats with names.
All of our welcome signs/seating plans were made by Dennis and I.
The pizza stands were logs (Dennis cut) then he wrapped fairy lights around them.
My dad made the Corn Hole boards used for the cocktail/games hours – my mum made the bags.
We collected all of the vintage glasses from op shops.
Dennis baked the bread and cultured the butter for our entrees.
Dennis created the wooden stand to hold the log for our wood cutting ceremony.
The flowers were from Central Market Flowers and for my Hens day all of my friends and family helped put the flowers together.
The cake was made by a good friend of mine Alice Fisher
The vases were old beer bottles that we collected and decorated.
The confetti was also a Hen’s Day activity with leaves from my parents garden and a lot of hole punching.
The pretzel tree Dennis built.
The wishing well, first anniversary messages, box for thongs and insect repellent boxes we decorated.
The syrup for our ‘Dennison Cocktail’ Dennis made.
All of the condiments for our Gin bar we also made but them into tea bags for guest to dip in their gin.
The napkins we did ourselves.
The bread board that we presented the charcuterie and cheese on was collected and burnt by Dennis.
Whew – amazing effort! We’ll let you enjoy the photos now…

Briony & Lachlan’s SA Country Wedding at the Family Farm

Maybe it’s just us, but with everything that’s going on in the world, we’re yearning for the simple things. Quality time with family and friends, good food, good times. Maybe that’s why we’re so drawn to this gorgeous South Aussie country wedding – it doesn’t get more personal and meaningful than a wedding on the family farm!
Not much about this day went the ‘traditional’ way. After meeting in high school and being together 10 years, Lachlan decided it was time to propose after they brought home their gorgeous twin boys from the hospital. During a family photoshoot, Lachlan sneakily got down on one knee and pulled out a ring, surprising Briony, and it’s all caught on camera!
They also did a ‘first look’ and bridal party photos before their wedding ceremony, to maximise the time they could spend with their family and friends after officially getting hitched. Oh, and did we mention all the guests thought they were attending an engagement party?! What a way to shake things up – the couple said this was the best thing they did, as their guests we so excited they were finally getting to witness them exchange vows!
We can’t get enough of the dusty tones of the landscape, which the couple purposely incorporated into the styling of their day. It proves sometimes you don’t need to go overboard with colours schemes and extra details – just enhance the backdrop nature has provided!

Brie + Angus’ Divine Barossa Valley Wedding

Oh to have a picture-perfect Barossa Valley wedding day like this one! Sneaking in just before those pesky COIVD restrictions, Brie and Angus planned their big day flawlessly from interstate, with the help of a rock-star line up of Barossa wedding vendors!
After an epic proposal by Angus in Queenstown, NZ, these two had a leisurely 18 months to plan their wedding, a little longer than they would have liked to be engaged but focusing on securing their favourite vendors and an amazing venue meant the couple had a mostly stress-free wedding planning experience!
Their focus was on keeping things simple and meaningful, relying on the skills and vision of their vendors, and going with the flow. Brie admits there was a lot of Instagramming, but the rustic style of the Barrel Hall at Seppeltsfield Winery dictated the natural vibe which flowed through their styling, florals and decor. The iconic Barossa venue provided the perfect backdrop and amazing catering, and local suppliers like Fleur Social, Barossa Styling and Events and Jessica Elmer Make Up made the day come together seamlessly.
